The weather here has been pretty bad for quite a while now which has kept me off my bike for too long (it feels).

I tried cycling in heavy rain a few days back and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Will cycling in the rain damage my mountain bike?

No, not really. Fortunately today’s cycles are made from materials that can withstand a wide variety of conditions. Frames are made from aluminum and therefore corrosion is not an issue, other components like shifters are made from plastic so again corrosion is not a problem. If you are using a cycle computer it might get damaged if it is not waterproof, but that's about it.
